My most embarrassing moment in the booth was when I was recording the VO for an interactive web spot for the perfume “Jovan Satisfaction”.
The job was for a new client at a new studio, and I decided to wear a new outfit. I looked good and felt confident. The director and audio engineer (both men) and I quickly developed a good rapport.
Once I got into the booth and we started recording, we realized that the dress I was wearing was too noisy (cardinal sin #1!),so….
I offered to take it off. Needless to say they didn’t object, after all, the quality of the project was at stake! Fortunately it was a jumper and underneath I had a shirt and stockings on… Plus, the script called for a touch of sexiness so being semi-clothed didn’t hurt the authenticity of my performance!
Fortunately the window of the booth wasn’t floor to ceiling, but I couldn’t be sure how much below my waist they could see, and just wearing stockings and a little shirt had me feeling closer to naked than not.
From that point forward I have ALWAYS tested the noisy-ness of any outfit I considered wearing to a session, and have built a collection of go-to clothes that I can move in without making a single sound!
Since then, Cashmere, is my favorite fabric.
Soft, sensual and silent!
Oh my gosh, Debbie! That’s an amazing story!
